Chinaforum Breakfast Club “Between Competition and Cooperation: China and India in the Global Power Structure”

30. Oct., from 10:00 to12:00 |25€

China and India – the two most populous countries in the world – play a central role in the global power structure today. They are economic and nuclear powers and are increasingly asserting their claim to geopolitical influence.

But their relationship is contradictory: On the one hand, historical tensions such as the 1962 border conflict continue to shape mistrust. On the other hand, the two countries have recently moved closer together in light of Washington's erratic policies. For the first time since 2018, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the People's Republic at the end of August to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit in Tianjin. This visit is widely seen as a significant sign of cautious rapprochement.

At the same time, Beijing and New Delhi are competing for investors, political influence in Asia, and, not least, for a voice in the global order, which is being renegotiated by the Ukraine war, the rivalry between the US and China, and the global race for future technologies.

As part of our upcoming Chinaforum Breakfast Club, entitled

"Between Competition and Cooperation: China and India in the Global Power Structure,"

Prof. Dr. Manuel Vermeer, a half-Indian and sinologist, founder and owner of Dr. Vermeer Consult, will analyze this contradictory dynamic. He will also highlight the political, economic, and military factors shaping the relationship and its impact on Europe and European companies.

The Chinaforum Breakfast Club will take place on October 30th from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (registration begins at 9:30 a.m.) at the Frankfurt am Main Chamber of Industry and Commerce, Börsenplatz 4, 60313 Frankfurt.

Afterward, there will be an opportunity to network and exchange ideas with the speaker and participants over breakfast.

The participation fee is €25.00. We ask that you register by October 25th.

Partners of the Chinaforum Breakfast Club are the Chamber of Industry and Commerce Frankfurt am Main and the Chamber of Industry and Commerce Aschaffenburg.
