On June 30th, the first event in the new series “Let’s Talk China – The China Round Table” took place in Chemnitz. This new exchange format was met with great interest. The event brought together a diverse audience: entrepreneurs, representatives of the city administration, network partners, academics, and international consultants.
A special highlight was the participation of three Chinese entrepreneurs who embodied the spirit of our project YiQi – Joint China Competence: fostering dialogue between China and Germany and building mutual understanding.
Why a Round Table?
With the China Round Table, the YiQi project has created a low-threshold format for personal exchange on China-related topics. While existing programs primarily target students and researchers, this new format aims to provide an open space for actors from a wide variety of backgrounds. Unlike digital formats, the round table allows for in-person conversations in a relaxed setting – a key factor for long-term networking.
Expert Input & Lively Exchange
The event’s keynote was delivered by Rainer Kaltschmidt, who shared insights from his many years of experience in China. He impressively demonstrated how closely economic relations are intertwined with understanding language, culture, and history. This was followed by the presentation of concrete business models for China-related spin-offs and a discussion about which models might be most relevant to which participants.
The evening concluded with an open exchange among all participants – in true round table fashion: direct, personal, and constructive.
Next Event Planned
The next “Let’s Talk China” Round Table is already in the works – a continuation of the successful format at roughly two-month intervals. Anyone interested in participating or learning more about China-related activities in Saxony is warmly invited to get in touch.
